Kenyan Photographer's Vividly Realized Images
Galerie Kitsuné
Colors of Thandiwe is an exhibition of new works by Nairobi, Kenya born photographer Thandiwe Muriu. The slyly cool but utterly captivating photographs are a celebration of African textiles, beauty codes (especially hairstyles) and, of course, vivid colors that tell their own story. A truly vibrant cultural snapshot.

ABOUT
Galerie Kitsuné & 193 Gallery are pleased to present “Colors of Thandiwe”, an exhibition by Thandiwe Muriu, a photographer born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. Through “Colors of Thandiwe”, Thandiwe aims to reclaim the self-love of the African woman who is often excluded from beauty standards in her own country. She also explores how the individual can lose their identity to culture. In her work Thandiwe showcases Africa’s unique mix of vibrant cultures, textiles and beauty norms. The accessories are inspired by the objects Kenyans interact with in their everyday life, where one object can have multiple uses beyond its original purpose.
