Frédéric Heurlier Cimolai

Paris’ Amelie, Maison d’art stands apart by presenting how artists’ works engage with actual living spaces. This SoHo, NYC outpost debuted in spring 2024, and September brings the first of a series of monthly “exhibits” focused around a single artist, in this case French abstractionist Frédéric Heurlier Cimolai. His paintings have a somewhat primitive quality, but also seem to betray a kind of architectural “logic”, as if he had taken the chaotic compositional ethos of Suprematism and given it a sense of order. Juxtaposed with the works of bleeding-edge designers like Linde Freya Tangelder and Ferréol Babin, it creates an entirely other visual narrative - intriguing, playful, and mirroring the beauty of the space itself.
